The Department of Linguistics and Philology comprises Linguistics, Asian and African Languages, and Classical Languages. In the department, the phenomena of language and language use are studied with different points of departure. The department offers almost 200 courses on topics varying from advanced machine translation to Byzantine literature. Research is conducted in areas covering general and computational linguistics, African and Asian languages and literature, as well as Classical languages.
